Memory Foam or Fiberfill Dog Bed

Fill affects the feel, shape and care of a dog bed. Compare the construction of the actual product instead of treating every bed labeled memory foam or orthopedic as the same thing.

Polyester fiberfill

Fiberfill is used in plush cushions and bolsters. The product's shape, fill quantity and cover help determine its feel. It can be a useful choice when you want a soft, cushioned resting spot. Check whether cleaning applies to the cover, the whole bed or selected components.

Shredded memory foam

Shredded memory foam consists of smaller pieces rather than one continuous slab. Several Majestic Pet memory foam beds use this construction. Confirm the description of the product you choose; the words memory foam alone do not identify the internal design or thickness.

Solid foam and layered constructions

A solid foam core is different from shredded fill. Layered products can also combine different materials. Where a listing specifies a core thickness, compare that measurement with the overall bed height and the remaining room in your crate or sleeping space. Do not assume that a specification from one model applies to another.

Four checks before choosing

• Sleeping area: compare actual dimensions and the space taken up by bolsters.
• Construction: confirm fiberfill, shredded foam, solid foam or a combination.
• Care: a removable washable cover does not mean the foam insert is machine washable.
• Replacement options: check whether you can replace the cover or cushion later.

Choose the bed, not just the label

Dogs that stretch out may prefer an open rectangle; curlers may use a raised edge. Our dog bed size guide helps you compare the space available in different styles. If you are choosing bedding for a diagnosed health condition or mobility problem, ask your veterinarian about your dog's individual needs rather than relying on a product label.
