Choosing Pet Stairs
Start with the furniture and your pet's needs rather than choosing stairs by the number of steps alone. Three-step, four-step, standard and heavy-duty models can have different dimensions.
Measure the destination
Measure vertically from the floor to the surface your pet needs to reach. For a bed, include the mattress and bedding; for a couch, measure to the seating surface. Compare this height with the total height of the stairs and consider the final movement onto the furniture.
Compare more than overall height
- Step rise: the vertical distance between steps.
- Tread depth: the front-to-back space on each step.
- Width: room for your pet to place its paws and use the steps.
- Floor footprint: the space the stairs take up in your room.
- Weight limit: use the rating published for the exact model.
Do not infer a weight capacity from the words heavy duty or from a product photograph. If the listing does not give a dimension or limit you need, ask our team before ordering.
Three steps or four?
Three-step designs may suit some lower furniture, while four-step designs may offer a better match for a higher surface. Check the actual total height and individual steps in both cases. The number of steps is not a universal fit rule.
Fit the stairs to your home and pet
Place the product as its instructions specify and check stability on your flooring. Allow a gradual, supervised introduction. If your pet has a mobility condition or difficulty using stairs, discuss appropriate access options with your veterinarian; stairs are not the right choice for every pet.
Care and replacement covers
Check whether the selected model has a removable washable cover and follow its care label. Match any replacement cover to the original model and dimensions.
